The installation instructions did not state if both computers had to be set up
    with the CD.

The device works nicely BUT installation required installing full drivers for my printer on two computers, and THEN installing the device’s drivers on both computers. After this whole process, I still need to run a program supplied by IOGear every time I need to switch the printer to the other computer.

This is definitely not a KVM level device, and the documentation implied that no end user action or installation are necessary (plug and play).

The only problem I encountered was the installation CD. It’s one of those mini-CDs and I have slot-loading drives. I just went to the web site and downloaded the latest drivers, problem solved.

The software must be installed. Control of the printer can only be switched via the software. There is no manual switching. As long as all parties are aware of the software, it shouldn’t be a problem.

I bought this device because my multi-function machine, a DPC-7020 from Brother, allowed parallel and USB connections simultaneously, so I could connect to two computers at the same time. My new computers don’t have a parallel printer port. I had to find an alternative. Printer sharing works for the printer, but Windows doesn’t allow for sharing a scanner. I initially ordered a print server that claimed multi-function support, but it was incompatable with my DCP-7020.

Bottom line, this unit works with my machine. It’s a little pricey, but when you gotta print, you gotta print. Oh, the UBS cables supplied with this unit are only 5′ long. They should supply 10 footers, minimum.

I have not been able to make the GUB211 work with my new Lenovo running Vista Home Prem SP2. I have had 2 long calls with IOGear and returned one for a replacement. Still no luck. The computer does not recognize it. However my old computer running SP works with the switch. This in no help since I still have to move cables around. I am puzzled that plug and play does not identify the device and I think IOG needs to write a new driver.

I needed to replace an old KVM switch that I had used as a printer switch. Did some research on the web and this IOGear switch seemed like the solution. Ordered from Amazon, got it quick, installed it very easily (hardest thing was routing cables inside my desk) and there you go – automatic switching! Previously I had to switch manually, now, whichever computer is trying to print gets access to the printer with no involvement from me or my wife.
